The Virginia Museum of Transportation announces ticket sales

Exclusive excursions originate in Manassas in June

 

Roanoke, VA– The Virginia Museum of Transportation announces that ticket sales for Norfolk & Western Class J 611 steam locomotive excursions, the finest steam passenger locomotive ever built.

“This is a rare opportunity to experience a trip behind one of the most famous and iconic locomotives of all time, the N & W Class J 611,” said Beverly T. Fitzpatrick, Jr., Executive Director of the Virginia Museum of Transportation.

The first excursions will be The Roanoker on Saturday, April 23rd and Sunday, April 24th leaving from Greensboro, North Carolina and traveling round trip to Roanoke, Virginia.

Following the first excursions, on May 7th and 8th there will be half-day trips aboard The Powhatan Arrow from Roanoke to Lynchburg, Virginia and The Pelican from Roanoke to Walton (Radford), Virginia.

The 2016 steam excursion schedule will end June 4th and 5th with three half-day excursions aboard The American from Manassas to Front Royal Virginia.  The first of the half-day excursions will run on Saturday morning, June 4th.  On Saturday afternoon after the morning excursion, the 611 will be on display and under steam at the 22nd Annual Manassas Heritage Railway Festival from 10 am until 3 pm.  The excursions will resume on Sunday morning and end Sunday afternoon June 5th.
